Slot Waveguide Mode
Posted : admin On 7/17/2022The model analyses the mode propagation within a nano slot waveguide. In a slot waveguide configuration, two high refractive index slabs (~3.48) are placed adjacent to the low refractive index slot (~1.44). Mode analysis was performed on a 2D cross section of a slot waveguide for an operating wavelength of 1.55[um]. Further analysis was carried out to optimize the width of the slot to deliver maximum optical power and optical intensity through the slot area.
Silicon Slot Waveguide
Waveguide with a slot width as large as 320nm. This strip-to-slot mode converter is optimized to provide a measured insertion loss as low as 0.08dB. Our mode converter provides 0.1dB lower loss compared to a conventional V-shape mode converter. This mode converter is used to couple light into and out of a 320nm slot photonic crystal waveguide. The effective index variation of the guided mode for a Si 3 N 4 /SiO 2 multiple (triple)-slot structure as a function of the bulk (fluid) refractive index variation has been estimated to be improved by 20% as compared to that of a single-slot waveguide. This is a consequence of a larger localization of the E-field of the propagating optical. Polaritonic slot waveguides have been explored as a means of manipulating nanoscale fields to compete in the race for the sub-diffractional confinement of light.
